LPI presents: a memorable evening with pianist Maya Irgalina

About Maya:
London-based Maya Irgalina performs internationally with UK highlights including Barbican, Wigmore Hall, Machynlleth Festival, and Oxford Arts Festival.
Maya holds prizes from Dudley, Sydney, Maria Yudina and Scriabin competitions. She is the winner of the RNCM’s Gold Medal, and had her Wigmore Hall debut as a winner of the Worshipful Company of Musicians auditions. As a soloist, she has played with orchestras including City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Manchester Camerata and others.
Here is the enchanting programme for the evening:
- Claude Debussy – Images, Book 2, evoking rich and vivid scenes through masterful impressionism
- Maurice Ravel – Miroirs, a set of five pieces that reflect the composer’s intricate and reflective style
- Sergei Rachmaninoff – Sonata No. 2 Op. 36 in B-flat Minor, a passionate expression of romantic intensity
- Valentin Silvestrov – Three Pieces from Kitsch Music, a modern twist with nostalgic charm
Additionally, Maya will speak about the Impressionism in music, focusing on Debussy and Ravel. She will also narrate the stories of political censorship and consequences for Rachmaninov’s and Silvestrov’s music… And overall, about composers’ inspirations, about surprising similarities and striking differences between their experiences.
How the evening will unfold:
The concert will begin at 7:30 pm and is expected to conclude by 9:15 pm. The program consists of two halves: 50 minutes and 35 minutes, with a 10-15 minute interval in between.
